Matresses

Buying a new mattress or a new bed is one of those things that people never seem to get around to doing. Its usually a case of 'it looks okay' or 'lets give it another year or so'.
Sleeping on a bed, on that mattress, is the single thing that you will be doing most in your home. It is perhaps difficult to realise how bad your bed and mattress is unless you tried out a new one. You may find your back is starting to ache or you suffer from restless nights. You really do not want to cause any long-term damage to your spine. The time has come for a replacement but where do you start?

If you find your sleep is constantly interrupted or if you notice the bed is too soft, hard, lumpy or spongey then it may be well be time to try a new mattress.
If you suffer from a particular back, spine or neck related injury then you should seek medical advice to helo you with your mattress choice BUT it still really comes down to confort and support. You will likely spend 10 or so on this new mattress so it has to be right for you.

When it comes to beds and mattresses, the softest are not always the best. This almost always comes down to personal preference. Your going to have to "test drive" your mattress. Don't be shy, and don't be afraid t ask the sales staff to leave you alone while you try out the mattresses. If someone will be sleeping with you, bring them along. Above all, the mattress should support your spine and should not interfere with your pressure points.

According to many people the hard the mattress the more it would be beneficial to your back. But, this is a myth, according to the American Chiropractic Association. While purchasing a mattress the surface of the mattress should be consistent all over the mattress. In some mattress, the body weight could leave an impression on the mattress, so it is advised to turn or rotate the mattress every 3 months.

After selecting whether a hard or soft mattress works best for you, there are a few other factors to consider before your purchase:

Durability: The mattress should be very comfortable and the quality of the materials used should be very good, so that it can last for years.

Warranty: The competition in the mattress industry is picking up and there are companies which provide 20 years warranty, so buy a mattress which at least provides 10 years warranty.

Space: Buy the mattress according to the size of the bed. The measurements of beds are different, so buy the right ones. If you are single then buy a single mattress and if two people sleep then buy a double bed mattress so that you have enough space to sleep and roll on the bed.
